In Shingon Buddhism from Japan the universe is represented by two mandalas.  One is called the Matrix Realm and represents the individual’s perspective of reality.  The other is called the Diamond Realm and represents the cold hard truth of reality.

The Matrix Realm represents the material world.  It is drawn with the individual at the center of the mandala.  This reflects the tendency of people to be egocentric and view themselves as the center of the universe.

The Diamond Realm Represents the spiritual world.  It is the world of consciousness and energy that underlies and forms the basis of the material world.  It is drawn with the individual at the top of the mandala.  This reflects the idea that the individual is not at the center of the universe.  However, they still hold an important position and have an important role to play in the functioning of the universe.
